Glorious Coleus

Hey it's the tropics. Ya gotta have coleus.

The first time I started paying attention to plants again was when the twins had to bring plants to school. One had to bring a San Francisco plant (or Croton) and a mayana (or coleus aka to people who like tongue twisters Solenostemon scutellarioides). I was searching for two weeks until I discovered the Plant Lady by accident. I bought these (two per):

Croton. Don't ask why it's oriented like that.

There has been no going back since. I always ask the Plant Lady for mayana. Or any plants with non-green leaves. They have to be pretty even without flowers. 90% of the time I get blank stares ("WTF is she talking about? Plants with non-green leaves!?"). But my primary source for random mayanas is another, ehem, lady.

The first coleus shown has been attacked by both mealy bugs and aphids, and has been rescued using water in a spray bottle with a teaspoon of Joy dish washing soap. More on that later. In the meantime, have a look see at the coleus varieties I have so far. Many thanks to the Plant Lady and the cross-dressing Plant Tranny.
